Lenticular Print Questions
What is Lenticular?
Lenticular printing is an exciting game-changer in the world of imagery! This cutting-edge technique takes standard images to a whole new level by creating stunning visual displays that pop with depth and movement. Imagine images that flip, morph, zoom, and animate right before your eyes!
The magic happens through a captivating process where multiple images are segmented into strips and expertly interlaced, all printed on a vibrant lenticular lens plastic. This process allows viewers to experience a variety of images from different angles, making it an unbeatable tool for commercial and promotional materials.
With lenticular printing, advertisers can elevate their campaigns to remarkable heights, grabbing attention and leaving a lasting impression. Get ready to transform your visuals and captivate your audience like never before!
Why Should I Use Lenticular Printing?
Lenticular printing tells your brand or product's story, transforming a traditionally flat, static surfaces into dynamic, animated and 3D visuals. Research shows that by expanding the viewing plane beyond conventional limits, lenticular printing captures attention in a uniquely captivating way. This technique not only enhances engagement but also makes your content more memorable, setting it apart from standard printing methods.
Minimum & Max lenticular print size?
The smallest size that will still maintain visual clarity and sharpness is 1.5 inches square. Any smaller than this and the fine lines and details may begin to break up under the lens, resulting in a less impactful final product.
- 75 lpi and 100 lpi lens – 24" x 36" max. (smaller projects, handheld, posters, etc.)
- 20 lpi and 40 lpi lens – 48" x 96" max. (large posters, POP displays, signage, etc.)
What finishing options are available?
- High-gloss or soft-touch lamination options for opaque backings
- Clear lamination (for see-through products)
- Pressure-sensitive adhesives; permanent, removable or repositional
- Magnet backing
- Tip-on options for packaging, perfect bound books, etc.
- Spiral binding
- Die-cutting
How many frames available for animation?
When determining the number of images to include when using a flip or animated effect, the key lies in using the fewest images necessary to effectively communicate your intended message. A two flip lenticular will almost always visually look better than a three image flip. The more frames you use, the more "ghosting" will appear. (Ghosting is when you can see some of one frame on top of the next.) Fewer frames you use, the more distinctly you will see each frame.
- Animated FLIP - 2 images is ideal. 3 images can work depending on the art.
- Animated motion or zoom – 3 to 8 frames
Does lens direction matter?
Yes! When it comes to lenticular animation, the direction in which the animation is perceived can greatly affect its visual impact.
- Handheld (animated, flip, zoom) projects tend to animate much better when viewed in an up/down motion compared to a left/right orientation. The lenses run horizontally.
- Fixed (Animated flip posters, POP displays, signage) left/right animating is necessary to display the effect as people walk past your lenticular advertisement. The lenses run vertically.
- 3D lens orientation is always vertical. This allows both eyes to view the lenticular piece properly. Each eye is fed a slightly different image to give the perception of depth.
